The Oakland Tribune 5K is on MARCH 25th at 7:45 AM
The Oakland Tribune 5K Race is open to participants of all ages.
Course Description
The Oakland Tribune 5K will run through the city streets near starting and ending at Snow Park at the corner of 19th and Harrison. The course will include one(1) water stop at the half way point.

Packet Pick-Up
All runners are required to pick up their bib race number and other important information during the Expo.
- All registered participants will receive bib numbers that must be worn on race day.
- Please fill in the necessary medical and emergency contact information on the back of the bib number with a pen or waterproof marker.
- Please do not alter the bib in any way.
- The bib must be visible and worn on the front outside of all clothing during the entire race. Make sure your bib number is clearly visible for the race photographers.
- Bib numbers are non-transferable and must be worn by the registrant to whom it has been assigned.
Runners who are not able to pick up their packets in person must make arrangements for a representative to pick up their packets. Your representative must present a signed authorization from you in order to claim your packet and premium.
The Nitty Gritty
The following items are not permitted on the course: pets, skateboards, bicycles, roller blades, baby joggers and any other type of vehicle (other than official Marathon vehicles). These regulations are for your safety and the safety of the other participants in the race. The Oakland Marathon reserves the right to disqualify and remove anyone from the course who has any of the above items.
Awards
Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall finishers and to the top three male and female finishers in each 5-year age group from 15 & under, 16-19, 20-24 then through 70 & over. Awards will be mailed approximately 3 weeks after the race, once results are final.
Please note that those competing in the Oakland Running Festival for awards or prize money may not use such devices and will not be eligible for any award or prize money if such device is worn. USA Track & Field Rule 144.3, states that the visible possession or use by athletes of video, audio, or communications devices in the competition area (which includes IPods, MP3 and other musical devices) is considered assistance and is therefore are prohibited.

Chip Timing
The event will utilize the newest timing technology. The B-tag technology offers runners a more streamlined race experience than the traditional chip system. B-Tags are attached to participant bib and clearly marked with the corresponding bib number. This eliminates the need to scan your chip at the expo.
In addition, runners do not need to return the tag and can dispose of it at their convenience. This means no more sitting down to undo your shoe lace just after your run and it also means you no longer have to worry about the $30 charge for a lost chip.
Tips to have your time accurately recorded:
- Race bib is clearly visible on the front of the torso
- Race bib is unaltered and unmodified (Do not fold or wrinkle)
- Race bib is pinned in all four corners
- Race bib is not covered (jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.)
Race Premium
Runners will be able to pick up their premium at the Expo on March 24th. The gear this year will be provided by GreenLight. Size chart below. The 5K participants will receive a short sleeve performance shirts.
